* The Association for Sex Education, Counselors and Therapists for the AASECT 2011 Best Book Award for ENDURING DESIRE: YOUR GUIDE TO LIFELONG INTIMACY by Michael Metz & Barry McCarthy at their June 2011 convention in San Diego.

*The Association for Behavioral & Cognitive Therapy (ABCT) awarded COPING WITH ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION by Michael Metz and Barry McCarthy the ABCT Self Help Book SEAL OF MERIT designation at their 2011 Toronto convention.

* the Society for Sex Therapy and Research for the SSTAR * 2007 Best Book Award for COPING WITH PREMATURE EJACULATION by by Michael Metz & Barry McCarthy.

 

Metz Receives 2007 SSTAR Award

  • Distinguished Service Award, for significant research, writing, and professional service in marital and family therapy, presented by the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT), January, 2001.
  • Certificate of Appreciation, Department of Family Practice & Community Health, University of Minnesota Medical School,  for “twelve years of outstanding professional service in the Department's Program in Human Sexuality... and exceptional professional contributions,” 1983 - 1995.
  • Recipient of  an “Outstanding Contribution” Award  by Minnesota Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (MAMFT) for an outstanding article published in the MAMFT Journal during 1995 --  Michael E. Metz, Ph.D., “Results from empirical studies of couples conflict resolution.”
  • Created and developed a significant psychological test, The Styles of Conflict Inventory (SCI), which measures intimate couple conflict dynamics, published by the major national testing company (Consulting Psychologists Press, Palo Alto, CA); 1993.
  • Certificate of Honor, "In appreciation for many years of dedicated and distinguished service for the organization," from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex (SSSS), 1992 SSSS Annual Meeting, San Diego, California, 1992.
  •  Appreciation Honor for service to the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex (SSSS), Annual Meeting Chair, "New Perspectives on Human Sexuality," Minneapolis, MN, 1990.
  • Appreciation Award for Outstanding Service, Minnesota State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, on completion of three years of service as founding board member (1987-1990);  St. Paul, Minnesota, 1991.
  • Appointed by Governor Rudy Perpich as a Founding Member on the Minnesota State Board of Marriage and Family Therapists (examiners for state licensure), 1987 - 1991.
  • As co-chair of the MAMFT legislative committee team succeeding in obtaining MFT regulation/licensure, recipient of  the Rosemary Dumer Award, for outstanding contribution to the field of marital and family therapy, Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT), 1988.
  • "Appreciation Award," Alternative Family Lifestyles Committee, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1985.
  • Ph.D. dissertation nominated for the National Research Award, Kinsey Institute, and designated "Honorable Mention," 1984.
